The New 2-Minute AED Rule: is your workplace compliant with BS 8599-1:2019+A1:2026?
Adopting BS 8599-1:2019+A1:2026 helps demonstrate your commitment to workplace safety, best practice and keeping pace with the latest health and safety guidance. One of the key updates is the expectation that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) should be available in workplaces where around five or more people may be present – including employees, visitors and customers.
To support a fast emergency response, AEDs should be accessible within two minutes — allowing one minute to locate and retrieve the device and one minute to prepare and begin treatment. For larger sites such as warehouses, factories, golf courses and multi-building facilities, more than one AED may be needed to meet this response time.
